The Beginning More About NitroTech

Information

NitroTech is a free and open source content management system (CMS). The idea of NitroTech is to be able to create a web page that not only is customisable in every aspect but is also community based. By using NitroTech you, the Administrator of the website, can edit everything on the site from pages to menus, users to forums, downloads to boxes and much much more.

For more information please goto the Features and How to (tips and tricks) pages.

A brief history of NitroTech

The name Nitrotech came to me when thinking of a name for my new web site that was going to be used to offer free web services (such as web page creating). Half way through creating my new web site I made a number of scripts for a LAN that my brother ran. I enjoyed making these and got carried away when I came up with the idea of making a page adding system for the scripts. After finishing these scripts for my brother I went back to my other site and did a little more. After a while I thought that my new site could use a CMS like the one I had made for my brother, so I decided to start again making a CMS that was named "Nitrotech" (note the case as this is important for version telling). After deciding to release it this new (alpha version) CMS and around 600 downloads I decided to restart once again, because as my knowledge of PHP grew, I knew I could make the program so much better. About half way through NitroTech2 (note the case again) I decided to get some help, starting with Philip the team grew until I had a very large and very smart group of great people working together to make NitroTech. But it was hard for people to join into the programming half way through; So we started again, this time aiming to make NitroTech (note the case) perfect and powerful in every way we thought possible while still keeping the use of the program simple. NitroTech is still in development and is going along quite well. As stated above, head over to the development forum to see our activity. Technically NitroTech (the third remake) should be "NitroTech version 3", but due to the fact that version 1 was never finished and version 2 never had any releases we thought it would be better to start the numbering from version 1 again, giving the latest build the simple name of "NitroTech". It would be quite useless having a NitroTech 3 and nobody knowing what happened to NitroTech 1 and 2.

The Team

Joshua Hesketh
Project Leader

Date of birth: September 7, 1988 Location: Tasmania, Australia. Sex: Male.

Being the project leader is a large job that I try and do in my free time. I started NitroTech a few years ago by myself taking on an impossibly huge job that I now have a great team of really smart people to help me.
Some of the duties that I have to do as project leader is to make sure everybody does their job and that everything falls together correctly. To do this I have to constantly know who is doing what by giving out certain tasks to developers, graphics artists and other team members.
On top of organising the team I am also a Lead Developer which means I am constantly programming and setting new standards for the rest of the team to follow; along with checking each developers code to make sure that it is perfected I also try to help out the other team members when I can.
When I am not working on NitroTech or enjoying my free time I am a year 12 student (last year of school :) ) at Launceston Christian School doing a number of subject. My current knowledge set is PHP, JAVA, C++, Perl, ASP.NET and SQL but is growing constantly.

I was the first Developer to be recruited by Josh. I joined when NitroTech2 was just beginning (Q2, 2004). Since then I have mainly worked on the templating system (which I wrote) and the Language system (in both NitroTech2 and NitroTech). Also currently in development in the XML class which will be used for exporting settings from NitroTech. I also help Josh develop standards for NitroTech as I am also a Lead Developer. In real life I am currently a full-time student at Launceston College (Grade 12). PHP is the language i'm most fluent in, but i have since started to learn Java (which i will learn more of next year) and C++ which i am using to write an application for use at LAN's (similar to Xfire).

Steve

I am the second graphic artist to be added to the NitroTech team just before the decision to make NitroTech. I am currently a student and work as a computer maintenance and networking intern at my school. I have recently started a deviantart account, http://szazeski.deviantart.com, where you can see other graphic art work that I do. Also at my school, I am the student technical director for the theatre, and run a lot of backstage equipment, from lightboards to soundboards to video mixers to building sets. I have my own website at http://zazeski.mybesthost.com, so please check it out.

I originally joined the NitroTech project to assist with the documentation,
and help out with the PHP coding. Since then my position has evolved in to
running the NitroTech web server, and helping out with various system
administration tasks. Originally from the Gold Coast in Australia, I am
currently living in Vancouver Canada, working for a company where I get to
make Python do all sorts of cool and creative things.

Achilles Charmpilas
Analysis / Design

Date of birth: November 26, 1979 Location: London, UK Sex: Male.

I'm the oldest guy around as it seems, which is kind of sad (for me)...
Nevertheless, I am a self taught web developer and designer. I have just founded a small London based web application company going by the name nutrun. I am also studying for my Msc in Music Information Technology, and part-time work in a studio as an audio engineer. I am responsible for the Killing Of The Table Based Design in Nitrotech, which means I m trying to make everything look as good as it can while remaining cross-media accessible and xhtml valid.

With thanks to

Past/Other contributers

Andrew J. Bennieston - Developer

Andrew has found himself piled under his studies at Uni and wishes to contribute more to the project when he has time.

Igor Petrovich - Developer

Igor put lots of effort into what he did do. But due to time restrictions he has left the team.

Justin - Editorial/Content Writer

Justin wrote the documents for version 1 of NitroTech (that no longer exsists).
